JOIDES Resolution Diary 4/21/23

Dear Diary,
We have pulled up the first mantle cores, but we may have angered the mantle gods because now our drill is stuck in the first hole.
The winds have changed direction. And with the turning weather, our luck has also, unfortunately turned for the worse. We will try for a new hole tomorrow when we get free.
I’m becoming obsessed with rocks. I didn’t think it was possible to be excited about a rock, but I was wrong. Before this expedition I didn’t know that someone could have a favorite rock. Being in a room full of geologists will have you questioning your own sense of humor as their technical sediment puns go over your head. I guess it’s not their fault…
