Dear Diary,

That’s a wrap! Expedition 399 is going down in the history books - or at least in the geology books 😏 I am so incredibly thankful I had the opportunity to participate in this exciting expedition and I can’t believe it’s already coming to an end.

The rocks we have uncovered on this expedition will be studied over the next few years and we will continue to learn more about how life may have initially started on earth and the conditions to support life on icy moons within our own solar system. This could have profound impacts on our understanding of our place within the universe 🤯

I have officially disembarked 🥺 This expedition has been an incredible journey, not only for the scientific breakthroughs that were made and will continue to be made in the coming years, but also for me personally.

I learned a lot about myself the past 2 months. I realize that I truly do love learning, I thrive under highly stressful conditions, and social media marketing is a lot harder than I used to think. Oh, also, I’m extremely terrified of heights. I have met some incredible friends who have seen me at my best (and worst) and even after all of the unprecedented challenges of this expedition, I couldn’t have picked a better team to be with on a research vessel for 2 whole months.

Now for a week in the Azores… 🌴☀️

Dear Diary,

Imagine living with your coworkers every day for 2 months straight with no days off. I’d like to say we all get along with each other all the time…but it’s pretty obvious that would be a lie.

One of the goals of the outreach office is to bring peace and goofiness to tense situations. It’s amazing what walking into a room and asking people to laugh at the camera can do for the overall attitude of the ship. Even if that feeling is fleeting.
